“You don’t owe me nothing… I don’t owe you neither”. The words of Wiley echo around my head as I take in the scaled back simplicity of a creative delivery, peppered across 14 tracks of refreshing music, and for the first time in a while, a well rounded product.

This is Wiley’s aptly named album 100% Publishing, and the consistent sound buried across this release definitely matches the title. The delivery on tracks such as ‘To Be Continued’, ‘Wise Man and his Words’ and of course, ‘Numbers In Action’ strike the perfect balance for Wiley’s never disappointing lyrical ability and flow. From my point of view, as a massive grime head, and someone who has a strong connection to the ‘scene’, I felt somewhat fulfilled to have my Wiley lyrical thirst quenched. As well as enjoying a different style, and at times a welcome light hearted approach on a beat, such as ‘I Just Woke Up’ and “Boom Boom Da Na”.
Another point to note was the intense peppering of self promotion that wiley put in during the run up, it was by all means not too greatly timed, but very enjoyable never the less. Wiley making eggs propbly wasnt the most engaging subject
but certainly interesting, and watching him in front of his mac acting out ‘I Just Woke Up’ sold me into this injection of creativity he seems to have found.
Picking up the Metro yesterday, and seeing the raving reviews it had been given, as well as some good write ups online from the likes of the Guardian and the BBC, certainly helped me to take my hat off to The Godfather of Grime. It’s worth mentioning Big Dada, and their support in delivering great creative music, getting the talents of US Studio for the creative direction on “Numbers In Action” and putting together the beautifully simplistic artwork.
